Georgia Southern Recap

Bike racing can be a hard knock life. The Dalton State Team found this out this past weekend at Georgia Southern. Ethan Williams performed with excellence in the morning Time Trial placing 2nd. It was the next day at the criterium race where Williams was involved in an accident. The accident has put Williams out for racing for the next few races to play it safe. The whole team looks forward to the return of Williams. Ethan Zehr had a challenging weekend as well. Zehr placed well in the TT, with a 2nd place. The road race and criterium were not as favorable. Zehr used the opportunity to recover from minor injury and as training for future races.

Julian Zehr is officially back riding this week! Zehr will take the next few weeks to regain strength and should return with vigor to racing.

Next up is Cumberland!

Georgia Southern Preview

The Dalton State Cycling Team will travel to Statesboro Georgia this weekend (2/25-26) for the race hosted by Georgia Southern.

The team is sending Ethan Zehr and Ethan Williams to compete this weekend. We are looking forward to Zehr continuing his strong finishes and fighting for a podium spot in the "B" category. While Williams will face new competition with his fresh upgrade to "C's". Williams should be able to finish solid and place well as he as been recently riding strongly.

The team is also eagerly anticipating the return of Julian Zehr. Zehr has been out with injury and playing it safe. We expect he could return to riding as early as next week.

Early Season Success.

The Dalton State Cycling team is having a very successful early 2012 season.

The teams first race was in Gainesville, Florida at the University of Florida Swamp Classic. Ethan Williams, in his first collegiate race, placed 4th in the technical circuit race, 4th in the time trial, and 1st in the criterium. Ethan Zehr racing category "B" was well placed for a 3rd place sprint finish in the circuit race. Nolan Wehr won the time trial for the "C" catergory.

The team's recent weekend was in Tallahassee, Florida for the Seminole Cycling Classic. It was the teams strongest weekend to date. Williams won the time trail and road race with commanding margins. Williams' strength allowed him for a quick upgrade into the "C" category. Wehr placed first in the time trail and placed 5th in the road race sprint finish. Ethan Zehr broke away in the "B" road race and fought to keep a hold ahead of the peloton but was caught and finished in the sprint. Zehr also fought numbness in freezing temperatures to fight for 8th place in the "B" crit race.

The team is looking forward to their upcoming races. The early season is very promising and more top finishes and wins are anticipated. The team will also look forward to the return of Julian Zehr, who will hopefully return soon from injury. The team is excited for the next race at Georgia Southern.
